why I created E4

Exercise
engagement
Enrichment
Exposure

Every morning, rain or shine, I rise before dawn to embark on a 5-mile bike or skateboard ride with my dog. Our journey takes us through multiple parks, where he revels in playtime with me, encounters a few (very few) other well-balanced dogs, and indulges his natural instincts by hunting squirrels and rodents as he dashes through the park while I ride alongside him.

This dedicated time is entirely focused on fulfilling all of my dog's needs—exercise, exposure to diverse environments, mental enrichment, socialization with compatible canine companions, quality engagement with the handler, and satisfying their natural prey drive. It's a comprehensive approach to ensuring their well-being and happiness.

Reflecting on this routine, I've realized that should I ever fall ill, there's no one I trust to provide the same level of care and fulfillment for my dog. He doesn't simply require a walk; he needs to feel truly alive.

One-on-One

This is not a dog walk.

With E⁴, your dog takes center stage, receiving undivided attention and customized care tailored solely to their needs.

Unlike group walks where attention may be divided, E⁴ offers a specialized one-on-one session where every effort is focused on your dog's well-being.

What sets E⁴ apart is that your dog's handler isn't just a dog walker—they're a professional trainer with expertise in handling powerful breeds and dogs with specific requirements.

This means your dog receives personalized attention from someone who understands their unique needs and can tailor the sessions accordingly.

During these sessions, your dog benefits from structured routines designed to fulfill their physical, mental, and social needs. Whether it's engaging in tailored exercises, exploring diverse environments, or enjoying quality bonding time, every aspect of the session is carefully crafted to maximize your dog's satisfaction and well-being.

After a session with E⁴, you can expect your dog to return home feeling deeply content and fulfilled, ready to enjoy several hours of restful sleep. Your dog's happiness and well-being are our top priorities, ensuring they receive the personalized care and attention they deserve from a professional trainer.

Peace of mind

Ensuring your peace of mind is our foremost concern. Every session is meticulously tracked through GPS, providing real-time information on your dog's location, distance covered, and even elimination patterns.

Additionally, you will receive curated videos and photos throughout the sessions, along with shareable social media content, if you like the idea!

Why the wheels?

The unique advantage of cycling or skateboarding lies in achieving a pace that aligns with the dogs' natural and anatomical inclinations.

Rather than a mere stroll, riding alongside a bike or skateboard encourages dogs to maintain a trot with intermittent gallops, closely mimicking their instinctual and biomechanically optimal gait.

Engaging dogs in exercise through biking or skateboarding is an approach deeply rooted in recognizing and respecting their innate athleticism. Unlike humans, who struggle to match their remarkable speed – a small Jack Russell, for instance, can reach an impressive 38 miles per hour – dogs are natural-born sprinters and thrive on the physical challenges presented by such activities.

For urban-dwelling dogs, the need extends beyond a leisurely walk; it's about providing them with the opportunity to truly run and connect with their primal instincts.

Beyond the physical benefits, this form of exercise proves to be mentally enriching for our four-legged companions.

The dynamic nature of biking or skateboarding requires dogs to concentrate on their movements, regulate their breathing, and stay attuned to the human companion riding alongside. It fosters a unique bond between the dog and the rider, promoting a shared sense of purpose and focus.

The liberating experience of covering ground swiftly and exploring their surroundings not only fulfills their physical needs but also satiates their desire to experience the world through scent and motion. In essence, exercising dogs through biking or skateboarding in a city environment goes beyond a mere physical activity; it's a holistic approach that recognizes and nurtures the inherent athleticism and natural instincts of our canine companions.

FAQ

  • Absolutely not, not even in bike lanes. While riding, we'll strictly stick to sidewalks, parks, and other designated pedestrian areas.

  • No, all dogs are welcome and the session will be tailored to your dog’s needs and abilities as well as limits.

  • Among all my clients, there are only TWO dogs I trust enough to be off-leash. For everyone else, they'll remain on a standard leash during the ride and on a long line at the park, provided the situation allows for it.

  • exercise

Exercise refers to physical activity that dogs engage in to maintain their physical and mental health.

The amount and type of exercise needed vary depending on the dog's breed, age, size, and overall health.

Regular exercise helps prevent obesity, improves cardiovascular health, and addresses behavior problems.

Physical activity helps stimulate the release of endorphins and endocannabinoids, which are neurotransmitters associated with happiness, mood, immune function, and more.

  • Engagement

Engagement refers to the level of involvement, interest, and focus that a dog exhibits during interactions with their owner or handler.

In training contexts, engagement is essential as it indicates the dog's willingness to participate and learn.

Strategies for fostering engagement include using positive reinforcement, interactive play, training games, and utilizing high-value rewards.

A dog that is highly engaged is more likely to respond to cues, learn new behaviors, and develop a strong bond with their owner or handler.

  • Enrichment

Enrichment involves providing stimulating and fulfilling experiences for dogs that cater to their physical, mental, and emotional needs.

Examples of enrichment activities include interactive games, scent work, socialization with other dogs, and exposure to novel environments and stimuli.

Enrichment helps prevent boredom, reduces stress, and encourages natural behaviors like exploration and problem-solving.

It is a critical component of a dog's overall well-being and contributes to better behavior by fulfilling their innate needs.

  • Exposure

Exposure refers to gradually introducing a dog to various environments, people, animals, objects, sounds, and experiences in a controlled and positive manner.

The goal of exposure is to habituate the dog to different stimuli, build confidence, and prevent fear or anxiety-related behavior problems.

Proper exposure during critical developmental periods and throughout the dog's life helps them become well-adjusted and adaptable to different situations.

Exposure should be carefully managed, avoiding overwhelming situations that could lead to fear or trauma.
